Bio
The Counterfeit Benefit, or TCB as it is also known, is a musical sextet from the suburban wilderness of Beverly, MA. The group was formed March 5, 2008, heralded by a deafening burst of indifference by the world at large. Comprised of:
drummer and technical extraordinaire John “Gonzo” Scotti,
keyboardist Zak “The Governor” Kline,
bassist Bobby “Wildcat” McPherson and joined by: guitarist/ukulele-ist T-Bone Levy,
brass section maestro Ben “Comeau”, and
guitarist Scott “Thunderfists” Megrath, the TCB’s musical sound is a volatile mix of 80’s pop fashion sense, hiphop street-cred, and progressive lunacy, permeated by the commercialistic soul and sex appeal of the late 90’s boy bands. But this harmonious musical collaboration was not to last.
After fruitful early sessions, the threads of comradery began to fray, mostly because of the bassist's troubling inability to actually play anything decent on the bass. his cavelier attitude toward "Man Laws", playing fast and loose with these sacred doctines, was also a factor. clearly it was time for a change.
After firing the troublesome McPherson because of myriad personal difficulties, bassist phenom Jake Downey was brought in, and the finalized TCB line up we know today was born. By cleverly working to gain an underground credibility and shunning the mainstream while simultaneously shamelessly aspiring to sell out as quickly as possible, it seems unavoidable that The Counterfeit Benefit will be a creative force to be reckoned with in the weeks to come.
